STRUCTURES FOR KINNASAND/KVADRAT SHOWROOM

STRUCTURES is a series of benches, ottomans and daybeds. The frame beneath each rug is a tool, an architectural support to lift the carpet from the floor to a new height, elevating it from its flat surface into a new dimension: furniture. The rich qualities of the woven and hand-knotted rugs loop around different frames, assembling a surface to take a pause on, sitting or lying.
Creating this limited series of furniture for the Kinnasand LAB project I aimed for to bring the textures and richness of the rugs closer to your hands and body, experiencing the character of each individual rug of Kinnasand’s collection.
For the first series of STRUCTURES I have chosen to work with the Kinnasand rug qualities Harvest, Zenith and Kelim in a range of colors. This selection can be expanded, adapting new rug designs. The characters of STRUCTURES can be furthermore altered through choice of color of both rug and coating of the structure, monotone or varicolored.
In the design process I aimed for to develop architectural frames, supporting the rugs with a base frame, secondary and almost invisible in design, hard and glossy in contrast to the soft, matt and absorbing surfaces of the rugs.
