Biography
Katrin Greiling (*1978, Germany) is a multidisciplinary designer and educator with an extensive body of work spanning furniture and product design, interior architecture, photography, and curatorial practice. Educated in Sweden, she has built a versatile and international career. Her design philosophy emphasizes reduction and creativity, with the ability to respectfully adapt to diverse cultural contexts and views projects from a multidisciplinary perspective. Deeply rooted within the Nordic design context she combines clarity and functionality with a distinct sensibility for color and materiality.
Driven by curiosity and the opportunity of design-oriented research she embarked shortly after her MFA in Interior Architecture and Furniture Design at Konstfack on a three year long research journey to the United Arab Emirates. She was involved in the UAE’s first pavilion at the Venice Biennale, and won numerous design competitions, notably she was awarded Furniture of the Year 2010 in Sweden for her Bidoun sofa series.
For Katrin, the camera is an indispensable research tool and companion. With a sharp eye she captures vital moments, which are published widely by leading international magazines and publishers.
Many of her designs have been created in collaboration with leading companies and institutions, such as Tecta, Droog, and Offecct. Kvadrat has for long been an important supporter of her work. She was one of the selected designer for the Hallingdal 65 exhibition in Milan, and developed the exhibition concept Structures for the Kinnasand/Kvadrat showroom in Milan. The F51N 2023 is currently exhibited as additional furniture in the Walter Gropius director’s office at the Bauhaus in Dessau.
