This Way, That Way, Both Ways
As a furniture designer and interior architect, I navigate a fundamentally three-dimensional world. When I choose upholstery fabrics for my designs I focus on haptics, color, and durability.
Curtain fabrics, however, belong to a different category. They are not closed surfaces. Light becomes an active ingredient, shaping both the perception of the textile and the mood of the interior. At first, working with fabrics might seem like engaging in a flat surface. But when I learned about the potential of working with a double weave, my design process was immediately sparked. The stripes could have two sides…
And then I put light into the equation. As conditions shift outside, so does the experience of the textile within.
When sunlight strikes the fabric, something unexpected happens: The alternating layers dissolve into each other. Colors blend like pigment in paint, and a third tone emerges. A soft, moiré-like depth that adds complexity and atmosphere.
The vertical stripes echo architectural lines from the interior, creating a visual continuity. The pattern features three different stripe widths, introducing rhythm and movement across the surface.
The fabric is woven from recycled polyester. Despite its technical origin, the material feels surprisingly soft and tactile, and the irregular threads recall the texture of linen - an appreciated contrast to the graphic nature of the stripes.
ROADSTAR
Roadstar subtly reinterprets the timeless theme of graphical rhythms. It offers outspoken repeating bands of colour in different frequencies, ranging from narrow to wide, which dissolve and reappear in the light like a watermark. As you look at Roadstar, it shifts between pattern and plain. It has a large repeat and three different stripe rhythms.
Roadstar has an organic linen look yet is created with recycled flame-retardant polyester. It comes in colourways that flow from delicate neutrals to invigorating darker shades. As it shares the same yarn, weaving technique, and double layers of Reverse, the two curtains combine particularly well.
“Double means two; two colours, two perspectives. And a third, when sunlight strikes the woven surface. A moiré of blended hues emerges, adding yet another layer of depth.”
