After having recently returned from my 3 years residency in Dubai I started working on the concept for the Design Bar. Heavyly influenced by the aesthetics and culture, not at least within the field of food, I created a space blending influences from both Dubai and my European roots in a way that feels cohesive yet dynamic.
Center of the space is the pineapple-shaped bar, a body in two parts, covered with stretchy fabrics.
The seating areas are a combination of my own designs (tables), combined with chairs by Jasper Morrison and benches by Tom Dixon.
The variation of seating and comfort, low and high, soft and hard, straight and reclined, invited the guests to stay for a while, and depending on needs, finding a private corner within the public.
Creating a higher sense of privacy in this open, high-ceilinged space, I added roofs made out of card board with one sided red print.
All materials were chosen carefully, matching the temporary nature of the fair. The furniture were auctioned out, other materials could be reused or recycled.
